Our forest fire situation has been scary and one town pretty much all burned near me. My portable air conditioners are taxed to say the least. When it got above 115 here we could not keep the temp below 80, although it would get to 27 C late in the afternoon and then we could usually get it to 24 C by morning. It is a little cooler lately (mid 80s-mid 90s F).
My small town has about 50% wearing masks, but sometimes when I am out there are almost none, and other times more than 50%.
You have convinced me to re-read The Girl Who Drank the Moon. I really enjoyed it, but when my copy fell apart at the beginning of the year, I didn't replace it. I have to soon. I am hoping to finally read the latest Murderbot book as well. I haven't listened to the audio but I remember thinking a lot about how ART might sound (in terms of tone).
Thanks for the post, it was interesting to read about the many books you have on the go and also that you are dealing with similar things with heat and mask use (I also say, why not wear one a little longer- even if it puts me in the minority opinion). Enjoy the rest of your week!Aaronhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04960920764884687750noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8744293504134940560.post-46843394247168303592021-07-10T14:30:09.031-07:002021-07-10T14:30:09.031-07:00So very sorry to hear of your mom's diagnosis,...So very sorry to hear of your mom's diagnosis, but - as you said - that's the first step and now treatment can begin. I wish her the very best outcome.

The Heat Dome of Doom - ha ha ha - I love it! I love the phrase but not the reality, as we have been experiencing it, too - mid 90's and humid day after day. Really hards to tolerate. I'm missing my outdoor time!

Hey, we went to the movies this week, too! First time for us since the pandemic :) We went to a 5 pm matinee on Thursday, so it was just us and one other couple in the theater! We saw A Quiet Place II, which was just as good as the first one. Then, we went OUT to dinner - actually sat INSIDE a restaurant instead of getting take-out. It felt like a really stunning experience!

Hope you have been enjoying your books this week -

Sue

2021 Big Book Summer ChallengeSue Jacksonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14532098225905355332noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8744293504134940560.post-9263328396150140232021-07-07T07:49:18.709-07:002021-07-07T07:49:18.709-07:00I’m sorry about all the heat where you live, but I...I’m sorry about all the heat where you live, but I’m glad you’ve still been getting out and doing fun things, like bird-watching or visiting the movies! Your cooking this week sounds delicious! I also have zero clue why people aren’t wearing masks over their noses—it is utterly pointless to wear them in that case. I’m still wearing masks pretty much everywhere I go (usually the KN95 ones, which might be overkill but actually fit around your face/stay on your nose better than the surgical masks). I’m so sorry to hear about your mother, but I’m glad they’re able to start treatment now that she has been diagnosed. It looks like you’ve read some great books! I read some of the Encyclopedia Brown stories several years ago, and I remember the one you mention about the phone —it’s confusing, because modern-day phones have a slightly different arrangement of letters, so the premise of that story doesn’t even make sense anymore! Show Me a Sign sounds like an intriguing story, and I agree that The Girl Who Drank the Moon is fabulous! Thanks so much for the great post!Max @ Completely Full Bookshelfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04466405075405012116noreply@blogger.com
