Spring Into the Library

Spring has sprung, although it pulled back a bit but may consider returning. For spring break, all three older kids have scattered to the winds leaving N and me to hold down the fort. We've been picnicking on nice days, and on library day we toddled off.

I had fun picking up a pile of holds (Cybils books) and also letting myself pick some pleasure reading from the tempt-me shelves and from the picture book section. I have to be careful or my new freedom to browse will bury me back under an impossible pile of books again. Oh, and I even talked N into picking up a book of his own; he mostly sees the library as a source of DVDs but Mo Willems has made another convert.

On the hold shelf (all Cybils books):

• The Notorious Benedict Arnold, Steve Sheinkin. Nonfiction shaped like a book
• Icefall, Matthew Kirby. This looks right up my seventh grader's alley.
• Feynman, Ottaviani & Myrick. Nonfiction in graphic form.
• The Great Wall of Lucy Wu, Wendy Wan-Long Shang. I've heard good things about this.

The new things I grabbed because I saw them and wanted them and TOOK them (ah, the freedom from the accursed Dare):

• Angels' Flight, Nalini Singh. Short stories in a series I like; I actually just read the first one in a different anthology.
• Something to Hold, Katherine Noe. This takes place in Oregon.  I need Oregon.
• Book Speak, Laura Salas. Another poetry picture book.
• Mr Putter and Tabby Run the Race & Mr Putter and Tabby Clear the Decks, both by Cynthia Rylant.  P and I really liked the Mr Putter books and I may try them on N.

This brings me to a total of 38 items out on my card, plus a horde of ebooks. The pile of review-real-soon-now books has again swamp my bedside table, so I hope to get on that any moment now.  I'll go share my Library Loot at the event co-hosted by Claire from the Captive Reader and Marg from The Adventures of an Intrepid Reader, where all the library addicts compare their treasures.
