Reading Even What I Don't Want

This is a double report since I didn't do any posting last week. I'll sign up at Book Journey and Teach Mentor Texts.

I spent the second week not reading anything really, but the week before I finished a few things:

• The Night Circus, Erin Morgenstern. I didn't like this much.
• Jinx, Sage Blackwood. Cybils finalist -- middle grade SF.
• Midnight Riot, Ben Aaronovitch. First book in the series I started in Texas.
• Old Men at Midnight, Chaim Potok. Davita after the Harp.
• The Unsung Hero, Suzanne Brockman. I had issues.
• We Are Not Eaten By Yaks, C. Alexander London. Kids tragically separated from their television.
• The Lost Stars: Perilous Shield, Jack Campbell. Pretty good until the last chapter, which had a twist I found rotten on many levels.
• Joey Pigza Loses Control, Jack Gantos. Book club pick.

What am I currently reading?

• The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax, Dorothy Gilman. AUDIO. I hope to finish this today since the library wants it back.
• The City of Ember, Jeanne DuPrau. AUDIO. Xan and I listen to it so we don't get ahead of Paulos with Mrs Pollifax. Except now I don't drive him as much so we're kinda in trouble.
• Carter's Big Break, Brent Crawford. AUDIO for me to listen to when I'm alone. It's from the 2013 Best of the Best for teens list. I think I need to hook Xan on this to encourage me.
• The Golden Leopard, Lynn Kerstan. Haven't touched this in a week or so. 
• Heart of Steel, Meljean Brooks. Also untouched for the past week.
• Perdition, Ann Aguirre. I liked the three pages I got to lately.
• The Dollhouse Murders
• What the Heart Knows
• Theodosia and the Eyes of Horos

Reading intermittently, and deliberately slowly. These never change much:

• Radio Fifth Grade, Gordon Korman. Transmission shenanigans with a powerful hair dryer.
• Out to Canaan, Jan Karon. The good mayor is back in the lead.
• A General Theory of Love, Thomas Lewis. 
• The Pickwick Papers, Charles Dickens. 
• How To Write Science Fiction & Fantasy, Orson Scott Card. How and where to try to sell the stuff you've written.

What's up next? Stuff from my Goodreads TBR list, I hope.

2014 Challenge Progress:

1. Cybils: 43/77. Working on poetry, and Elementary Speculative Fiction.
2. Where Am I Reading? 25/51. 
3. Alphabetically Inclined: 15/26. Inching along.
4. What's In a Name?: 5/7. Still need weather and school subject.
5. Book Bingo: 23 Squares. Still need a handful of  New Releases, and a few more TBR.
6. Gentle Spectrum Challenge: 5/10, 7/10. 
7. Small Fry Safari: 6/8. No change. Still need pairs and something precious.
8. PoC Speculative Fiction 4/5: I may move up a level!
9. Best of the Best 2012: 52/25.  Finally finished The Night Circus.
