Another Monday

Each Monday Sheila at Book Journey asks about how the reading week went -- what people read, what they are reading, what they will read.  It's a good chance to see if any trends are developing.

What did I read?
  • Uncertain Creatures, by Sarah Monette
  • Battle For Skandia (Ranger Apprentice 4) John Flanagan
  • Kings of the North, Elizabeth Moon
  • Thendara House, Marion Zimmer Bradley
  • The Heir, Grace Burrowes
  • In the Dark of Dreams, Marjorie Liu
  • River Marked, Patricia Briggs
What trends do I see? I seem to be reading mostly women authors.  But only one book was kidlit, which is quite different from last week. All of those books were fun.  I also read a few pictures books for the Cybils awards:
  • A Sick Day for Amos McGee, Philip Stead
  • Mirror, Mirror Marilyn Singer
Right now I'm reading:
  • The Scarlet Pimpernel, Baroness Orczy.  Swashbuckling.
  • The Curies, by Denis Brian. Biography of the science family. For a challenge.
  • The House on the Strand, by Dapne Du Maurier, recommended by a friend.  Slow going.
  • The Game of Silence, by Louise Erdrich. From my TBR piles
  • Mouse Tales, David Koenig.  It jumped the queue because I didn't think I could renew it.  I did.
  • Tales of the Vampires, a Buffy comic
  • Territory, Emma Bull (vacation book)
  • Hammered, Elizabeth Bear (vacation book)
  • Bad Prince Charlie, John Moore (vacation book)
  • Interior Life, Katherine Blake (vacation book)
  • Glass Harmonica, Louise Marley (vacation book)
  • The Rogue's Return, Jo Beverly (vacation book)
  • The Hob's Bargain, Patricia Briggs (vacation book)
  • Flying Solo Ralph Fletcher (borrowed by a kid, now returned)
  • The Privilege of the Sword Ellen Kusher. (I'm scared about what will happen, so I'm reading very slowly)
I'm just poking at the vacation books; mostly I'm reading the top four.  I celebrate finishing a book with a chapter from the Buffy book.  My library pile will shift to whatever is due on the 11th.  I'll probably grab some more kidlit from my TBR piles, since it goes quickly and I need some shelf space back in that bookcase.  My next challenge book is another nonfiction, a biography of Rose Wilder.

Quick stats on my Challenges:
A-Z: 22/52.  I'm still relying on luck to fill this one in.
Cybils: 30/76.  I finished all the Fiction Picture Books! Two categories down.
Michigan: 1/2 But the second book came home from the library.
Once Upon a Time: 2/5.
Read World: 4/20.  A New Zealand book gave me another country.
Stream: 2/3. Both the Buffy book and the Curie book will go in here, though.
Take Chance: .5  I need to do the reviews, but I have started this!
20/11: 7/20.  Moving along.
What Name: 3/6.  Stuck. I've started scanning the display books at the library looking for gems.
Where Am I Reading: 12  I think Texas was the new state.

Wow, that's a lot of current reads. I thought I was bad reading three books at a time... lol.

Love John Flanagan's books. So does my hubby. :)

Here's what I'm reading.

My thoughts exactly Kristen! I have to be strict and not start new books unless I have good reason. At the moment I've got a short story collection on the go and an ebook that I'm reading on my laptop, so I've been allowing myself other reads.

I'm a bit excessive, I know. I try to limit myself to a library book, a challenge book, and a TBR pile book. But on vacation I just let myself start anything and not finish it, and now they are lying around on my bedside table. I'm lucky if I read 25-50 pages in any of those "extra" books each day.

Sometimes one of them catches fire and I don't put it down till I finish it. But not lately...

I hate reading just one book, though.

Enjoy whatever you choose to read!

OOh I loved House on the Strand. Drugs, time travel and Britain. Kind of a triple header for me :) But yeah the history stuff did get a little slow. it speeds up though. How far in are you?
I've got about 20 going here but I suck at reviews so I've given up writing them. I'm leaving that to Kristen & you :)

I'm not sure I'd call what I write "reviews." My sister just bought me a nook, so we'll see if my reading habits change to more new stuff!.

I like the time travel and the Britain, but I'm squeamish about drugs, which seem to be the biggest part. The head scientist just died, and I didn't like him much, so things may pick up for me.
